Entries closed last week for World Masters T & F Champs in Daegu, with an incredible 35 Irish Master Athletes entered. This is almost double the number who travelled when last held there in 2017. Saddened to hear of the death of Ernie Caffrey, Ballina A.C. who passed away peacefully over the weekend, surrounded by his family. Ernie competed over several disciplines & won many titles, competing both at National & International level (including winning a Silver Medal at M80 Long-Jump at World Masters in Perth in 2016). Congratulations to all Irish Master Athletes who competed at non-Stadia Champs in Catania, Sicily over the past weekend. Comprising of just 13 Athletes & superbly managed by Sean McDermott, the team returned home with 18 medals in total & remarkably, all who competed, medalled in their events. Congratulations to all master’s teams who competed at 123.ie AAI Relay Champs once again hosted by Raheny Shamrocks last Sunday. In the opening race of the day. F35 & F50 Teams, just a small total of 11 clubs faced the starter. The format was 1 mile leg, followed by 2 miles & 1 mile to finish. Host club, Raheny Shamrocks captured both the F35 & F50 titles, followed by Longford A.C & Crusaders A.C. in the F35s & Bros Pearse & Donore Hrs in the F50s. Next race up was the M35s

European Masters Indoor Champs drew to a close on Thursday, with Team Ireland finishing an incredible 7th overall in the medals table shooting from 10th over the final 2 days. Final tally of 77 medals, 22 Gold, 33 Silver & 22 Bronze. This represents again another successful foray by our incredible Athletes in the International Champs punching well above our weight. Several Master Athletes participated in the 123.ie AAI National Senior Indoor Champs in Abbottstown last weekend. A special mention to Anne Gilshinan of Slaney Olympic who smashed her previous WR in the 1500m & becomes the first F60 to crack the 5minute barrier Indoors, stopping the clock at 4.58:80. The British & Irish Masters CC Champs hosted by English Masters in Roundhay Park, Leeds last weekend, will go down in the annals as one of the most challenging events in the history of these Champs & that was even before the racing commenced on Saturday. With storm Claudia disrupting many flights on Friday, Athletes, Supporters & Team Managers had to make hasty plans to make it over to Leeds on time, with some getting onto alternative flights to Manchester & others reschedule
