Busy past few days with the opening of World Masters T & F Champs in Daegu, South Korea over the weekend. Previous IMAA President Sean McMullin M80 of Mullingar Hrs had the distinction of winning Team Irelands first medal on opening day, capturing gold in the 10km race walk. This was followed shortly afterwards by Stephen Hunter M45 winning bronze in the 3000m steeplechase. One additional result worthy of a special mention here is the gold medal won by John MacDermott M80 in the Decathlon. Kate O’Connor had better watch out. We were also delighted to hear that long time Team Manager, Anne Gormley was awarded a special merit award at General Assembly in Daegu in recognition for her long & outstanding services as Irish Team Manager & services to WMA. Congratulations to Anne for this very special & well-earned award. Further news from the GA was the announcement that next WMA T & F Champs will be held in Breda, Netherlands Aug 2028 followed by Houston, Texas in 2030. With this announcement it will mean that there will be 3 major Champs held in Europe in 2028, European Masters Indoors in Glasgow in March, followed by non-stadia in Galway in May & then onto Breda in Aug, so exciting times ahead.



Also delighted to advise that Christine Kennedy F70 set a World Road Best (subject to ratification) over the ½ marathon up at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon last Sunday, when posting a time of 1.35.40, slicing 33 seconds from the previous best time.

Any Master Athlete who enters for these Champs must also be a registered member of the IMAA for their registration to be validated by IMAA Sec. Please see link below for registration. Also please note that official IMAA approved kit (Joma) must be worn at Master Champs. Singlet is mandatory, please see link for full range of IMAA approved Joma gear which is available through JF Sports in Carlow.




This is a reminder that there is one week left before the registration deadline for both the 2026 WMA Marathon Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, and the 2026 WMA 100 km Championships in Ames, A Coruña, Spain. The registration deadline for both championships is 1 September 2026. All registrations (including paper registrations that athletes send to their Member countries) must be submitted online and paid before this date.

With Ireland hosting this years British & Irish Masters CC Champs in Abbottstown on Sat 14th Nov, we hope that as many as possible Master Athletes will be available for selection, so please pass the word around. We will furnish more details over the next few weeks on selection criteria. Trial race will once again be held in conjunction with AAI Autumn CC, Sunday 18th Oct, also run in Abbottstown.
