Belated congratulations to all the Master Athletes who competed at 123.ie AAI Masters T&F Champs on Aug Bank Holiday weekend in Tullamore. Many fine performances on the day, though wind was a little too kind to majority of the sprints, therefore negating any potential records which might have been achieved. A word of thanks also to the many Officials & Volunteers who officiated on the day & ensured that the timetable was kept on track. Majority of these people have put in sterling work throughout the past few months, volunteering most weeks, so am sure are looking forward to a small break before the CC seasons kicks in.
Currently have over 100 Irish Master Athletes competing at World Masters T&F Champs, which commenced on Mon 12th Gothenburg. Shane Sheridan M65 100m & Geraldine Finegan F55 Heptathlon had the honours of opening Team Irelands medal tally on day 2, both securing bronze medals. Hopefully as the days progress & as Athletes navigate & qualify through the opening rounds, we will see many more finalists & medals accumulate. You can monitor results through the following link;
Once these Champs are over, our Records Officer, Ronan Gately, will conduct a full review of both AAI Masters Champs plus World Masters T&F Champs & will then update records accordingly, so please be patient.
Looking further ahead as we already have had some queries re British & Irish Masters CC Champs which will be hosted by our good colleagues in Northern Ireland Masters on 16th Nov in Belfast. Teams will be selected following trial race, which will be held in conjunction with AAI Autumn CC in Abbottstown on Sun 20th Oct. For entry, please check on AAI website @ www.athleticsireland.ie Also any Athlete seeking selection must be a fully paid up member of IMAA. We will provide further details next few weeks re selection criteria.
