January Round Up

Congratulations to all Athletes who competed in AAI Irish Life Health Irish Masters Indoor T & F Champs in Athlone on Sunday 30th Jan. A total of 19 records set on the day, all of which will be updated on the website over the coming days. A special word of thanks to Andrew Lynam, Head of Competition Committee, & all the Officials & Volunteers who ensured that timetable went smoothly on the day.

Many of those competing will now be fine-tuning their training over the next few weeks in preparation for European Masters Indoor T & F Champs which will take place in Braga, Portugal, from 20th to 27th Feb.

Delighted to announce that Lucy Moore of DSD was awarded a Services to Coaching Award by AAI at their virtual Awards Ceremony, within the past few days. This is worthy recognition for all her work with numerous Athletes down through the years, leading many to International selection as well as competing herself at a very high standard, medalling both Nationally & at International Championships. It was a double celebration for Lucy, as DSD were also named Club of the Year

Also at the same awards, Tommy Hughes, Strive Hrs was named Master Athlete of the year. Nicknamed the Marrakesh Express, Tommy, who competed at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 & has previously won the Dublin Marathon, is currently breaking World Records over both track & road since returning to Athletics in the past few years.

Congratulations to both Lucy & Tommy. We now look forward to many more achievements from our Members, as more competition comes into play over the coming months.

Further reminder re AGM which will take place on Sat 5th Mar 2022, commencing at 2.30pm in Donore Hrs Clubhouse, Chapelizod. It would be great to finally get as many as possible to attend on the day, seeing as most of us having been linking up via Zoom for almost past 2 years. In the meanwhile please forward motions & nominations to Sec by Mon 14th Feb.
