A very belated congratulations to Ann-Marie McGlynn who was a scoring member of the Senior Irish Ladies Team who captured a magnificent bronze team medal at European CC Champs in Turin mid Dec. Ann-Marie has capped off a brilliant year in which she competed at European T & F Champs in Munich over the marathon plus also went on to finish 2nd Irish Female Athlete at Irish Life Dublin Marathon in Oct.
Would also like to give an honourable mention to Sinead Diver who ran a magnificent 2:21:34 at Valencia Marathon early Dec. This proud Irish Athlete, who hails from Belmullet, Co. Mayo but runs under the Australian flag following her move there 20 years ago. She broke the Australian record with her time & also surpassed Catherina McKiernan’s time of 2.22.2, run in Amsterdam in 1998, but which will stand as the official Irish record. We are incredibly proud to have such leading Female Master Athletes achieving incredible performances at Senior level.
As the year draws to a close, we can look back also at many fantastic performances by Irish Master Athletes over the past 12 months. To summarize, 57 medals won at World Masters T & F Champs in Tampere, 60 medals at European Masters Indoors in Braga, double figures also from a very small team at non Stadia Champs in Grosseto plus 2 World Ind Champs at World Mountain Champs hosted by IMRA in Clonmel in Sept. Finally capped with both Men & Women winning the overall Team titles at the British & Irish Masters CC Champs, hosted by IMAA in Santry in Nov for the very first time in over 30 years. We have set very high standards for those competing in 2023.
In conclusion, I would like to wish all Master Athletes & their families a very happy Christmas, best wishes, good health & continued success in 2023
