Irish Masters Track Athletes - World Records and World Awards in the past year


Annette Kealy (Raheny, Dublin)

Athletics Ireland Master Athlete of the Year 2019

In March 2019 in the W50 category she won double Silver at the World Championships in Torun, Poland in the 3000m and the 8k Cross Country. Annette followed up with Gold at the European Championships in Venice in September in both 5000m (Track) and 10000m (Road).

The Raheny athlete has previously made the Irish Women’s Senior Team for the World Cross Country, won the Womens Mini Marathon and the National Marathon title.


Mick Fennell (Malahide, Dublin)

Irish Masters Athletics Association (IMAA) – Tadgh Lynch Award 2019

Mick has been a stalwart of Masters Athletics for many years both on and off the track. He has held a number of key positions on the IMAA Executive Committee including President and International Secretary.

Anne Gilshinan (Slaney Olympic, Wexford)

World Masters Middle Distance Female Athlete of 2019 European Masters Middle Distance Female Athlete of 2019 Silver in 1500m in W50 category in World Indoor Masters in Torun, Poland in Mar 2019 Anne has set 5 World Records in W55 category in the past year as follows:

Outdoors:

800m – 2:19:63 in Leixlip on 8th June 2019 1500m – 4:41:46 in Belfast on 22nd June 2019 1 mile – 5:08:47 in Dublin on 7th August 2019 Indoors:

1 mile – 5:13:90 in Abbotstown, Dublin on 11th Feb 2020 1500m – 4:46:90 in Abbotstown, Dublin on 22nd Feb 2020

Tommy Hughes (Termoneeny, Derry)

Tommy has set a number of age group World Records during the past year including M60 5 Mile Road Race (26:57 in Raheny 5 Mile on 26/01/2020) and 2:27:52 for M59 in Frankfurt marathon on 27/10/2019. Tommy won the Dublin Marathon in 1991 in 2:14:46 and represented Ireland in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

Joe Gough (West Waterford)

World Masters Middle Distance Male Runner-up Athlete of 2019 European Masters Middle Distance Male Athlete of 2019 World Masters Middle Distance Male Athlete of 2018 European Masters Middle Distance Male Athlete of 2018 Double Gold at European Championships (Outdoors) in Venice in Sep. 2019 in 800m and 1500m Double Gold at World Championships (Indoors) in Poland in Mar. 2019 in 800m and 1500m

Brian Lynch (North East Runners, Louth)

Brian won double Gold at the European Championships in Venice in Sep 2019 in the M65 category in 5000m and in the 4k Cross Country. Brian also collected double Silver in 1500m and 4k XC Team.

Brian continues to hold the M60 World Record for 1500m Indoors at 4:26:62 (Budapest 30/03/14)
